Voodoo Queen

Marie Laveau, Voodoo Queen, from way down yonder in New Orleans.
Accompanied, of course, by her snake, Zombi.

Meowza.

I was struggling with a way to translate the "Black Cat" theme of today into one of my girls. I kept picturing just cat ears, but I wasn't loving the way it was looking, but then Chelsea suggested cat eye glasses! Then the inspiration came flooding. I've been wanting to do a Bettie Page-esque girl for a while now, and here was my chance! I'm really happy with how she turned out!

Mummy dearest.

She's one of those L.A. mummies that is always going to get nipped and tucked.
Inspired by Goodnight Mommy. Or in this case, Goodnight Mummy.

If looks could kill...

She likes her men the same way she likes her wrestlers.
Stone Cold.

Candy Ma'am

She's wearing a candy corn necklace because it's her favorite.
I also like candy corn and I don't understand the hate it gets.
If you don't like it, give it to me. I'll gladly eat it.

She's no dummy.

She's no dummy... she has a Bachelor's degree and the student loan debt to prove it.
Also, fun fact: She is quite the mouth piece. She'll say the things you never would.

She's sweet.

A pretty painted lady celebrating dia de los muertos a bit early.

What are you doing in my waters?

This is Old Gregg's sister. Her name is Bailey.
She might also be related to the Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Some days she uses her dinglehopper to comb the seaweed out of her hair. Other days, she keeps it in as a cute accessory.

PS. Go look at Old Gregg on Chelsea's blog!

90s choker.

My favorite part about this horned demon lady is the fact that she is wearing a 90s choker.

Head stone.

For Drawlloween's theme of grave, I had to really think out of the box, so I made a nice bust. One that perhaps could be used as a head stone. Get it?

The word of the day is nazar.

I have always seen these amulets hanging around shops and knew they had to do with the Evil Eye, so I just always called them the evil eye pendants. Well, alas, I learned their true name. Nazar. They are used to ward off the evil eye, which is thought to bring harm and misfortune to those on which it is cast.

She's a bit batty.

You know that urban legend about bats flying and getting stuck in your hair? Well, let me confirm, it's real.

The monster's bride.

Fun fact: when Elsa Lanchester played the character in the Bride of Frankstein, her hair was actually red. You can't tell, of course, because the film is black and white. When it came time for producing merchandise, Universal decided to make it black.

Planet Schmanet, Janet!

Dralloween Day 10: Alien. I went way obscure and picked everyone's favorite Alien from Transexual, Transylvania... Dr. Frank N Furter! Thanks to his Sonic Transducer audio-vibratory physiomolecular transport device, Dr. Frank N Furter can travel through space and time itself! Been on quite the Rocky Horror kick lately, celebrating it's 40th anniversary! Happy birthday, Rocky.

Eye see all.

Day 9 brings to you an... eyeball? So obviously that got translated to this hypnotizing gypsy with an all seeing eye.

Vegan zombie.

She's only after your grains.
Ba-dum-tss. I love puns.

I really didn't want to do a zombie, I wasn't feeling that category at all, but then as I was working on this piece, I really started getting into it. Now, she's one of my favorites that I've made so far! Funny how that works, huh, Chelsea Kirchoff?

She's dying to clean your house.

Not exactly Drawlloween's Day 7 challenge of a haunted house... but she cleans them and boy, the stories she can tell. You know that cabin in the woods? Yep, she's been there. How about that house on haunted hill? You betcha! Amityville? Not so horrible. The hardest blood stains to get out, you ask? Definitely at the last house on the left.

Pumpkin head.

Today's Drawlloween topic was pumpkin and boy, oh boy, did I find this one challenging. After many failed attempts at other ideas, I thought, "why can't she just wear pumpkin as a headpiece?", and she was born.

Wear wolf.

This is Red. She likes to wear wolf.

I find this piece slightly troubling because when I started my own personal Drawlloween challenge, I wanted to maintain the super simple style of American Traditional tattooing, but I just get sucked in and keep adding more and more and more detail until it isn't very simple anymore. But, hey, that's progression, right? This is leaning more towards Neo Traditional, but I'm okay with that.

Vampires don't wear polka dots.

Here she is... day four's Vampire! I really like the homemaker vibe the bow gives her. Her specialty is blood sausage pie.

Goblin it up.

Day three brings you a goblin! I have this urge that I want to stick with a theme, unifying all of my pieces this year, and I really have gotten into tattoo culture (thanks to Ink Master) and really love the look of American Traditional/ Sailor Jerry/ Old School tattoos. That is my inspiration. I am really challenging myself with this, so cheers to that. Hope it lasts!

Satan is real.

Stoked that Drawlloween is back. Day 2 brings to you... the Devil.
Inspired by American Traditional tattoos of yore.

DRAWLLOWEEN IS BACK!

Let's kick things off proper. Chelsea Kirchoff and myself spent a solid week and quite a few packs of Sharpies and Microns polishing this beast off. We wanted a piece that sums up the Halloween spirit, including our favorite monsters, new and old, and I think this does so perfectly. And the best part? IT'S FOR SALE! We made an incredibly spooky and limited 30 prints of this smorgasboard, (so including the original, there are 31 copies... get it?) and we are selling it for only $31 (including shipping)! So get 'em while they are hot!
